1. Objective

The Anime FanFiction Award (AFA) was created to recognize the works of authors across many different fandoms. The award was intended to encompass Canon, AU/AR, and Crossover settings, works of various types and sizes, and several genres. The process of nominating, reviewing, and voting was to be conducted quarter by quarter. Limitations were setup to prevent domination by any individual fandom, author, and work.

The AFA maintains a zero-tolerance policy against plagiarists - plagiarists will be stripped of awards and banned.

2. Eligibility - Requirements

[*] The work can be of any anime fandom; crossover into any other fandom is allowed.

[*] The work is not subject to any period of eligibility requirements or status requirement; a work can be of any age and complete/WIP.

[*] The work must be in compliance with the definition of the category into which it was nominated.

[*] The work must not be created by a minor.

[*] The work must not be plagiarized.

3. Eligibility - Limitations

[*] A work that earned a category's first place award is not eligible for nomination into that category next quarter.

NOTE - this is a procedural, automatic one quarter ban and does not reflect anything negative about the work.

NOTE - a list of banned (by procedure), banned by plagiarism, and prohibited by author will be provided along with the nomination ballot form at the start of the quarter.

[*] A fandom is limited to a global maximum of 50 nominations.

[*] An author is limited to a global maximum of 10 nominations.

[*] A work is limited to a global maximum of 5 nominations.

4. Nominating

[*] Only members of the AFA community are able to nominate.

[*] All nominations must be submitted to the admin via the nomination ballot form.

[*] All nominations will be blind; the names and/or identities of nominators will not be publicized, further, the admin will not disclose rejected nominations.

[*] A nomination is valid if and only if its entry at the nomination ballot form is complete; ballots do not have to be fully filled (for example: you may chose to nominate only in a few categories); ballots may be resubmitted (for example: if you chose to add/modify a nomination).

NOTE - a valid nomination does not equal a correct nomination. A nomination will be valid if it adheres to the rule above, however, it will be correct if it meets eligibility and follows all of the rules of nomination.

[*] A nominator is limited to only one nomination per category; a nominator is able to withdraw and/or modify a nomination as long as it is still the period of nomination.

[*] A work's creator cannot self-nominate.

5. Reviewing

At the close of the nominating period a list of correct nominations will be posted. All members and non-members are encouraged to read the nominations and check if any of the following conditions apply:

[*] A nomination does not fit its category.

[*] A nomination is the work of a minor.

[*] A work is plagiarized.

Submit a notice of violation to the admin that details all of the facts. Also, if you are an author, you may chose to be excluded by submitting a request to the admin. All other issues, regarding standards of quality, etc, are determined by the votes cast by the members of the AFA.

6. Voting

[*] Only members of the AFA community are able to vote.

[*] All votes must be submitted to the admin via a form.

[*] Only one vote per category will be allowed.

[*] A category will be eligible if it receives nominations from at least three different fandoms. A category will be skipped and 'rolled-over' into next quarter's award if it does not meet this eligibility requirement.

7. Awarding

The first, second, and third place winners will be of different fandoms. The procedure to determine winners is: the highest vote-getter receives 1st place and all other works from its fandom are excluded; the second-highest vote-getter (after the exclusions) receives 2nd place and all other works from its fandom are excluded; the third-highest vote-getter (after the exclusions) receives 3rd place. Ties do not affect placement however, they do increase the number of fandoms that will be excluded as placements are determined.

8. Miscellaneous

During the nominating, reviewing, and voting periods there can be no discussion regarding the award itself except to inquire about facts and to alert staff about non-award issues.

In order to preserve the integrity of the award authors are asked to refrain from advertising their work specifically to gain votes at any site (public and private) available to members of the AFA community.

Misconduct, such as engineering nominations or votes, result in bans and/or stripping of awards.
